It's a Tie in Dixville Notch

If the first city to vote in the U.S. is any indication of how this election will go, we are in for a tight one.

After 43 seconds of voting, Dixville Notch, New Hampshire's 10 votes divided evenly — five for President Obama, five for Republican Mitt Romney.

Dixville Notch is traditioanlly the first city to cast votes in each Presidential election.

New Hampshire, a swing state, has four electoral votes. That may not sound like much, but in a tight election it could be decisive. Al Gore learned that the hard way in 2000, when he won the nation's popular vote but lost in the electoral college to George W. Bush. If Gore had won New Hampshire, he'd have taken the White House.

Encyclopedia Britannica to Aid Bing Search

The Encyclopedia Britannica is trying to remain relevant, so they going the way of Bing.

Microsoft’s search engine, just entered into a partnership with Encyclopedia Britannica to provide Britannica Online answers directly on the Bing results page as part of Bing’s answers feature.

The internet has displaced the need for books, to some degree, and Encyclopedia Britannica and its 32-volume printed edition felt that pressure. The company ceased its print edition in March and said it would focus on selling its established reference works to subscribers online, as well as mobile platforms such as smartphones and tablets.

Mobile will be the next hurdle where Encyclopedia Britannica will need to stay relevant. “We’re living in an increasingly non-PC world,” says Pidgeon. “Smartphones are going to leapfrog PCs. The best thing to do is a web-based strategy, which would work on a mobile web browser.”

Dancing With the Stars Semi-Final Results: Hope Floats

After a day fighting off the effects of food poisoning, I gathered my wits and strength long enough to catch last night's performance show.

The stars of the show last night were Ricki and Derek, with Rob and Cheryl close behind.  J.R. and Karina ended up in third and Hope and Maks were left in the dust.

One couple will be eliminated tonight and be left out of the finals.  Based on past elimination shows and their below average performance, Hope and Maks seem to be a pretty safe bet to go home.

Let's see who makes the finals and some Muppets tonight.

The encore dance is Ron and Cheryl with their "I Go To Rio" routine.

A result is coming up with Rob and Cheryl finding out if they will be making the finals.  They will be coming back.

Next, a performance by Cobra Starship.  Some great dancing by Kym, Tristian and others.

Up next, Maks and Hope find out where they stand.  I think the judges again were a little harsh on this pair.  They will be in jeopardy and will find out their fate.

After a little segment with Carson Kressley on the DWTS wardrobe department, we finally get to see Derek and Anna in the Design-A-Dance routine.

Next, our uplifting story featuring Kenny Wormald, who stars in the current movie "Footloose."  He talks about how difficult it is to be a male dancer.  They set out to prove that dance is a manly sport.  These kids did a great job with the pro dancers.

The Muppets make their appearance on DWTS to promote their new movie.  Great to have Stadler and Waldorf as the judges.

More results with Ricki and Derek and J.R. and Karina.  J.R. fought through his ankle injury and they go into jeopardy.  Rick and Derek head to the finals.

That leaves us with either Hope and maks or J.R. and Karina exiting tonight.

The couple heading to the finals along with Ricki and Derek and Rob and Cheryl is J.R. and Karina.  No surprise.

Finals next week.

Dancing With the Stars Results: Chynna Can't "Hold On"

A big night in the ballroom as some great guests from music and dance make appearances.  On a sad note, one more contestant will be leaving this week.

Last night was all about movies and I think they all did a pretty good job.  Chynna Phillips was perhaps the most disappointing of the evening since she had been so good the first three weeks.  Carson and Rob Kardashian again showed improvement and Hope Solo rebounded with a great routine.

The first routine of the night was the song "Soul Man".  Some good music and dancing.

Next we get Susan Boyle singing a nice movie theme and we get some dancing by by Peta and Val.

Now, on to the results.  J.R, Rob, and Ricki are called to the stage.  I'm sure Ricki is safe, but not sure about the other two.  Ricki is safe and so is J.R.  Rob and Cheryl are put in jeopardy.

Next we get to see Julianne House return to the balloom and dance with her Footloose co-star Kenny Wormald.  Also, Blake Shelton singing the new Footloose theme song.  It hits theaters this Friday.

More couples up for elimination.  Carson, Chynna and Chaz are called up to the stage.  This is going to be a tough decision and a tough result.  The next contestant who is safe is Chaz.  Joining them as safe is Carson.  Chynna and Tony are going into jeopardy.

They are really putting Julianne to work tonight.  She now gets to dance with Derek.  More high energy dancing from the Hough's.

Three more couples to find out their destiny.  Nancy, David and Hope.  This will be another tough decision.  Returning next will be Hope and David.  Nancy Grace goes into jeopardy.

The three couples in jeopardy do not look happy.  Brought to safety is Nancy and Tristan.  Rob and Cheryl and Chynna and Tony remain in jeopardy.

Chynna is eliminated and Rob comes back for one more week.

Next week, we go back to the 80's.

Dancing With the Stars Week 3 Results: The Jay Cutler Effect

If everyone has recovered from last night's emotional looks back at memorable years, there will be a results show tonight and another dancer will be eliminated.

I'm sure it won't be J.R. Martinez as he and Karina captured everyone's attentions, not only with his dancing, but with his moving story.  I don't think it will be Chynna Phillips and Derek Hough as they executed another great routine.

Mary J. Blige got the show off to a fast start tonight.  Also some great Latin dancing to go along with it.

Some results right away tonight.  Up for eliminations are Chaz and Lacey, Ricki and Derek, and J.R. and Karina.  The first couple safe tonight is J.R.and Karina.  Also safe is Ricki and Derek.  Chaz and Lacey are safe as well, in a surprise.  What a surprise.

The encore dance tonight was Chynna and Tony.  Once again a nice job, this couple may be the favorite at this stage of the competition.

More eliminations coming fast and furious.  This one includes Nancy and Tristan, Hope and Maks and Carson and Anna along with Rob and Cheryl.  Will Carson make it through after he showed big improvement?

The next couple safe is Rob and Cheryl.  Carson and Anna are in jeopardy.  Nancy and Tristan are safe as well.  Hope and Maks are in jeopardy.

Next week, the cast will be dancing to movie themes, so the troupe along with Peta and Val danced to a song from Gone With the Wind.

Next a rendition of Chubby Checker's Twist.  A special appearance by Chubby Checker himself.  He still can move.  Len even got out on the floor to do a little twist.

After more Mary J.Blige we see Chynna and Tony, David and Kym, and Kristin and Mark.  Coming back next wee is Chynna and Tony.  David and Kym are also coming back.  Kristin and Mark are in jeopardy.

One couple now will brought to safe ground.  That would be Carson and Anna.  So a bit of a surprise this evening.  Leaving the show this week is the team of Kristin and Mark.  Hope and Maks will dance again.
Movie themes next week.

I have to believe Jay Cutler showing up didn't help Kristin Cavallari.
