Rickie Smith Pro Mod Crash at Bristol

Veteran driver and Bristol Dragway legend Rickie Smith was involved in a high-speed crash during the second qualifying session of the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Series. Smith was reported to have suffered a fractured left knee in the incident by medical officials at the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Smith’s ’68 Camaro went out of control and collided with Pete Farber’s ’69 Daytona as the pair were making a side-by-side qualifying run. Farber was checked and released at the track by NHRA emergency services officials.

Eliminations will be all day on Sunday and ESPN2 will have coverage beginning at 4:30 Eastern time.

Apple Announces Back-to-School Promotion

I thought school just let out.  Apple apparently can't wait for kids to head back.

Apple announced today its annual back-to-school promotion, but unlike years past offered a $100 iTunes gift card to customers who buy a qualifying Mac.

In each of the last three years, Apple had given rebates of up to an amount of $249 toward the purchase of a new iPod Touch or other iPods.  Students loved this.

This year's promotion, which runs through Sept. 20, gives students, parents, teachers and staff members the $100 gift card when they buy a new iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. Refurbished Macs and the Mac Mini do not qualify for the deal.

The gift card can be used for purchases at Apple's digital content marts, including the Mac App Store, iOS App Store, iBookstore and the iTunes store.

How You Can Watch the Lunar Eclipse

Tonight's lunar eclipse will be visible from parts of South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia late this morning, but you can still watch from North America.

Starting at 11 a.m. PDT, Google will live stream the eclipse on the company’s official YouTube channel. The broadcast will wrap up around 3 p.m.

If simply watching the lunar eclipse isn’t enough for you, you can watch live at Slooh’s website, where the feed will be accompanied by ongoing commentary from astronomers and experts.
