French Open Men's Singles Prediction

I see this as a pretty easy pick.  Forget the career head to head, forget it's clay, forget how these two great champions are playing.

This is Nadal's match to lose and he's not going to lose.

Nadal in 3 sets for another Championship.

Jane Lynch to Host Emmy Awards

Organizers announced Thursday that Lynch would host the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards, airing live from Los Angeles on Sept. 18.

Lynch, a veteran comedic actress now best known for portraying the take-no-prisoners cheerleading coach on TV hit Glee, said she was "tickled pink" by the hosting gig.

"I'm looking forward to singing, dancing and sporting my finest tracksuit," she said in a statement, referring to her character's preferred garb.

Prolific film and television star Lynch took part in past Emmy host Jimmy Fallon's pre-taped and live opening number for the 2010 ceremony, at which she later earned an Emmy for best supporting actress.  She also won a Golden Globe for the role.

"Jane was my first — and only — choice as the host," said reality TV guru and Emmy executive producer Mark Burnett.

"She has incredible comedic timing and is a charismatic, talented actress whose energy leaps off the screen and stage."

Emmy nominations will be announced July 14.

French Open Men's Semi-Final Predictions

The top 4 seeds in a Grand Slam semi-finals.  Does it get any better than that?

Right now it doesn't, but there are some intriguing stories taking place this year in Paris.

Rafa Nadal is going for yet another French Open title and is looking to keep his #1 world ranking.

Andy Murray has dodged all sort of bullets in this event.  He's been like a cat with 9 lives, and I'm not sure if he has any left.

Roger Federer has proved a bunch of people wrong in getting this far, but he's made it here with relative ease.

Novak Djokovic is trying to wrestle the #1 ranking away from Nadal, win another Grand Slam title, and oh by the way, he hasn't lost yet this year.

Predictions:  Nadal and Djokovic.

Damaging Tornadoes Hit Massachusetts

Death reported in tornado: wwlp.com

Multiple tornadoes caused damage across Western Massachusetts Wednesday afternoon, including one that caused heavy damage in Springfield's Downtown and South End neighborhoods.

The tornado had crossed the Connecticut River from West Springfield into the city, crossing the Connecticut River and Interstate 91.

Thomas Walsh, aide to Mayor Domenic Sarno, told 22News that the National Guard has been called-in to Springfield, and that residents are being asked to stay off the roads so that emergency workers can do their jobs.

The State Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT) has been called in to help search damaged buildings for the possibility that anyone is trapped. Traffic into the city is being limited, as highway ramps leading to the city have been closed by State Police.

There are numerous trees down in the area, and many roads are impassible.

PVTA buses are still running throughout the city, but there are delays and detours in the South End.

That tornado started in Westfield, where Police Sgt. Eric Hall told 22News that there are no reports of injuries in that city, but power lines are down, and Shaker Rd. and Pontoosic Rd. is also closed.

There are also reports of additional tornadoes touching down in Wilbraham and in Agawam.

Radio Station Van Catches Fire During Memorial Day Parade

A Memorial Day parade in Wisconsin was briefly interrupted after a van in the parade caught fire.

De Pere, WI Fire Captain Rich Annen says the call came in about 10:39 a.m., but he says firefighters could see the smoke from the radio station van before the call came in.

Once crews arrived on the Claude Allouez Bridge they found the Star 98 van on fire. The flames were on the base of windshield both inside and outside the vehicle.

The two people in the van smelled smoke and got out of the vehicle. There were no injuries.

Annen says the fire was quickly extinguished.

The Star 98 van was near the middle of the parade, which was held up behind the vehicle until the fire was put out. Annen says the parade was allowed to continue while crews cleaned up the scene. He says the parade delay was only about 15 to 20 minutes.

No word on whether STAR 98 is going to change their name to HOT 98.
