Week 6: NFL Play of the Week

Can it be week 6 of the NFL season already?  It is and by the looks of my picks so far, I'd like to turn back the clock to week 1.

Bye weeks, injuries, trades, and inappropriate text messages.  And that is just the weekly Brett Favre update.

But seriously, I'm putting a lot of effort into this week's selections.

When in doubt go with Indy and the over.  And that is what I'm going to do this week.

The Colts are on Sunday Night Football and at Washington.  They are giving 3 to the Redskins but that is ok.  Take the Colts and the over 44 1/2.  I know it looks like under might be the only play, but what the heck.

Colts and the Over!

Ohio St. Proves to be a Fraud

Ohio St. laid an egg on Saturday in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin started strong, and held on to defeat the visitors from Ohio 31-18.  The Badgers jumped out to a three-touchdown lead, and never looked back.

The Badgers (6-1, 2-1) had not beaten Ohio State since 2004, and the Buckeyes hadn't won by fewer than 11 points this season.

But none of that mattered while Wisconsin's offensive line battered the Buckeyes' front seven during a first-half touchdown drive that lasted — get this — 10 minutes and four seconds. John Clay helped his team churn out 89 yards on 19 plays to take a 21-0 lead.

Ohio State rebounded to drive to Wisconsin's 3-yard line. But then the Buckeyes blinked, going backward in a span of three plays.  Terrelle Pryor  rebounded for Ohio St. completing all seven pass attempts in the third quarter as the Buckeyes cut the lead to 21-18.  It wouldn't be enough.

But Tolzien, the Wisconsin quarterback completed two clutch passes to Nick Toon, and speedy tailback James White made a Barry Sanders-esque cutback to get free for a 12-yard touchdown run.

That increased Wisconsin's lead to 28-18 with less than seven minutes to play.

It was celebration time in Wisconsin after that.

College Football Play of the Day 10/16/10

Virginia Tech Baby!

Virginia Tech is at home today playing Wake Forest.

The Hokies are only laying 22 pts so this should be a walk in the park.  VA Tech appears to be getting better each and every week.  Wake might be getting worse every week.

Lay the 22 and VA Tech will brighten your day.

* Bonus night pick:

Florida is -8 at home playing Miss. St.  Miss. State is an improved team, but only getting 8 in Gainesville?  Go Gators!  Give up the 8.

Fantasy Football Buy or Sell for Week 6

Week 5 is in the books and there are no unbeaten teams left in the NFL. This is the earliest I can remember this happening in a while.

The bye weeks continue and so does the lineup for your fantasy team. The Packers are banged up, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Falcons are hitting their stride, and if you watched Monday Night Football last night, Brett Favre struggled and the Jet's D dominated.

Here's a buy or sell heading into Week 6.

Buy:

The Jet's D. Wow, what a performance on MNF. I expect the Jets to continue shutting teams down and winning games with their defense.

Frank Gore, RB 49ers. The 49ers have been bad, but Gore puts up numbers and expect that to continue.

Kenny Britt, WR Titans. The young wide receiver for the Titans is becoming the favorite target of Vince Young. Against the Cowboys he had four catches for 86 yards and a score.

Danny Amendola, WR Rams. The Rams still have a ways to go, but they do know they have their quarterback of the future in Sam Bradford. Amendola is a young wideout who will get more catches now with Mark Clayton out for the season. He could be a decent fill in if you have WRs on bye weeks.

Sell:

The Packer's Tight Ends. Both Finley and Lee went down on Sunday, but the Packers also have other injury issues as well. The Pack kept 4 tight ends coming out of camp, looks like they will use them all.

Shaun Hill, QB Lions. Is Matthew Stafford back yet? No, but Hill has been filling in well against weak competition. Don't play him this week unless you have nobody else breathing on your roster.

Alex Smith, QB 49ers. The fact that Smith is still the starter is amazing to me. All you need to know about Smith is he has more interceptions than touchdowns for his career. I'm glad I'm not a 49er fan.

Mike Tolbert, RB Chargers. 12 carries for 11 yards and a fumble. Ouch!

On the fence:

Hakeen Nicks,WR Giants. Had a monster week, but can that continue. Nicks has been inconsistent throughout his career.

Colt McCoy, QB Browns. Will be interesting to see how McCoy does this week if he gets the start.

Week 5: NFL Play of the Week

The Chargers are an inconsistent team, and my NFL picks have been consistent so far this season, consistently awful.

San Diego goes on the road to Oakland today to take on the Raiders.  They are only laying 6 1/2 to another bad Raiders team.  Should be an easy cover for P. Rivers and Co.

I also like the total in this game at 45.  Go with the under as I don't see Oakland putting many points on the board.

Take the Chargers and the under to win big today.
