Tornados Rip Through the South

Things got a bit hairy in Metro Atlanta last night as the same line of storms that produced tornados and hail in Oklahoma and Mississippi held together and raced through Georgia.

Seven people were killed by storms in Alabama on Friday, bringing the total dead from a string of violent storms and tornadoes across the southern United States to at least 16, officials said on Saturday.

Storms, some severe, are expected Saturday from the Florida Panhandle through eastern and southern Georgia, the Carolinas and Virginia, according to weather.com. Fire danger continues over the dry southern plains.

Tornadoes kill about 70 people in the United States each year.

Here's some unbelievable video shot in Clinton, MS last night.

Twitter May Have Some Competition

UberMedia, a company which has coded multiple Twitter apps, may be planning to launch its own site to compete with the social networking giant.

CNN says, the service would be designed to address common problems people have with Twitter. For example, it might eliminate the length restriction (140 characters) or make the network more accessible to newcomers who are confused by the standard UI.

Twitter has crushed competition in the past, in particular FriendFeed and Google Buzz, and now boasts around 200 million registered users.

Just last week, Twitter released statistics saying users were sending 155 million tweets a day, a 282% increase from a year ago.

I'm not sure Twitter has anything to worry about.

Two Planes Have a Fender Bender at JFK

A wing of an Airbus A380, clipped the tail of a Comair commuter plane while taxiing out to depart John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday night.

Air France Flight 7, bound for Paris, was taxiing on a runway when its left wingtip struck the tail of Comair Flight 6293, which had just landed from Boston and was taxiing to its gate at Kennedy.

A scary incident, but no injuries reported.
