Dancing With the Stars Broadway Week Lives Up to the Hype

After a week reminiscing about the music of the 80's, it's off to Broadway for a week of show tunes.

It's about the half-way point of season 13 and the competition is up for grabs.

Who does Broadway Week give an edge to?  Well, Ricki Lake for one as she was in "Hairspray" on Broadway.  J.R. should have another good week, and look out for Nancy Grace and David Arquette coming down the stretch.

Now, tonight's performances.

An opening number with the cast of "Sister Act", now playing on Broadway.  How about that, a bunch of nuns on the dance floor.  I haven't seen that many nuns in one place since I was back in Catholic school.

First up tonight will be Rob Kardashian and Cheryl.  Rob was very good last week, let's see how that translates to Broadway.  He'll be dancing to a "Jersey Boys" number this time around.  Rob's timing was a little off at the beginning.  Len thought it wasn't as crisp as it needed to be for a cha cha.  Rob gets a 22 out of 30.

Nancy Grace and Tristan are next.  They get a song from "Spamalot."  Monty Python and a foxtrot?  Tristan is upping the level of difficulty for their routine this week.  Nancy kept up pretty well with Tristan.  A nice tribute to Monty Python.  Nancy gets a 24.

Next up is David Arquette and Kym Johnson doing "Grease".  Kym is a dead ringer for Olivia Newton John.  High energy and a good effort from David.  Len thought it was fun, but a little rough around the edges.  David gets a 22.

Here's Ricki Lake and Derek, trying to rebound from last week's disappointment.  They get a "Guys and Dolls" number.  A real nice and clean effort from this duo.  I liked it, the crowd liked it, and the judges loved it.  Carrie Ann thought Ricki deserved a Tony Award for that performance.  They get a 29.

I never put Chaz Bono and "Phantom of the Opera" in the same realm, but here it is.  Chaz wants to keep improving, but this might be too tough for him.  Lacey wants Chaz to up his game.  Chaz was very dramatic, but maybe a little stiff and choppy.  They get a 19.

Hope Solo looks to rebound again with Maks.  They dance to "Rent."  Hope and Maks are both looking for perfection.  They do a nice rumba.  Good choreography and keep tight with the theme of the musical.  Carrie Ann thought it was sexy but thinks she forces the moves at times.  Len was disappointed with the dance, Maks shot back at Len, saying maybe he should get out of the business.  Bruno thought it could've gone a bit better.  Hope gets a 20.

I'm always looking forward to seeing J.R. Martinez dance.  J.R. and Karina have a quickstep this week.  Karina has cooked up an ambitious routine this week.  J.R. was great, flips, kicks and keeping up with Karina.  Carrie Ann awards another Tony for this great routine.  J.R. gets a 29.

A performance by Kristin Chenowith gives us a taste what's coming tomorrow night.

Tonight we have the famous group dance.  Carson Kressley was brought back to help with the routine.    This group dance is Broadway, all the way!

This dance was set up like a real musical.  Some flips and good lifts, but not from Chaz.  Lots of energy and real entertaining.

More Broadway and the results show tomorrow night.

Dancing With the Stars 80's Week Results Show: Carson Exits

Well we all survived the decade of the 80's and we somehow survived a wacky 80's night on Dancing With the Stars last night.

From Carson's wild cheerleader routine to Wham! and Ricki Lake getting some tough criticism from the judges it was a strange, just like the entire decade of the 80's.

Eliminations are tonight and as usual, it's going to come down to fan's votes.

The dance troupe began the night with another tribute to the 80's.  After a couple Madonna songs we are ready to go.

Ricki and Hope are the first two contestants to be called up on stage tonight.  Here come some results.  The first couple safe is Ricki and Derek.  Hope is in jeopardy.

Next a performance by Kelly Clarkson and some more dancing from the pros.  Kelly Clarkson looked better than she has recently.  Kelly has a new album coming out called "Stronger."

On to a special feature named with a girl named Charm who had a rough upbringing.  She beat the odds and with the help of her mother she became a dancer.  She made it through college and gives back by teaching dance to grade school kids.  She gets to perform a dance with Derek and Mark.

Now we get some country with The Band Perry.  Louis and Karina with some nice dancing included.
Rob, J.R. and David on up to find out where they stand next.  J.R. has been good each week, but Rob and David are tied for most improved.  The next safe couple is J.R. and Karina.  David and Kym are in jeopardy.  Rob and Cheryl are safe for another week.

Following another Kelly Clarkson song, we get some more results.  Nancy, Carson and Chaz come forward.  The next couple safe is Chaz and Lacey.  Nancy and Tristan are also safe, that means Carson and Anna are in he bottom three.

Time to see who is going home.  One couple will be safe and that is... David and Kym.  Hope or Carson will be going home.  The final results say Carson is heading on home.

Dancing With the Stars: Songs of the 1980's and Some Big Hair

Tonight we pay homage to the great songs of the 1980's.

It's the 5th week of competition so we should see one or two of the couples who should make the finals start to separate themselves from the pack.  I don't think that will be the team of Chaz and Lacey, but they have made it this far.

Let's go back to the 80's.

The Bangles started off the show with one of their hits, "Eternal Flame."  After they broke in to "Walk Like an Egyptian" you knew it was 80's Night.  A lot of big hair, spandex and parachute pants to come.

Hope and Maks are first up tonight.  They did a good foxtrot last week.  this weeks it's on to the tango.  Another good dance.  Lot's of action and entertainment value.  Len thought Hope was too flat, but Bruno thought she resembled an 80's Super Bitch.  She was strong and powerful, but needs a little refining.  Hope gets a 24.

Carson and Anna are up next with a Wham! song.  Carson donned leg warmers for rehearsals, and a track suit for the performance, that turned into a cheerleader outfit, compete with pom poms.  It may be the strangest dance I've ever seen on DWTS.  I don't know what to say about this.  Bruno called it a "Crowning achievement in madness."  Carson gets a 19 and a lot of smiles.

Nancy and Tristan next on stage.  It's wouldn't be the 80's without Spandau Ballet.  Nancy has a lot of work to do this week and Tristan wants her to listen better.  Remember, Nancy is a lawyer, so good luck with that.  Not a difficult dance, it was ok to me.  The judges thought it was ok as well.  Nancy gets a 22 out of 30.

After another Bangles song we get J.R. and Karina.  J.R. has been the best dancer on the show so far, but the judges still want to see more.  They get a samba and J.R. is looking forward to it.  A lot going on here as J.R. unleashed his Latin roots.  With the best ovation of the night, J.R. gets a 28 and vaults to the top!

Rob and Cheryl are next on.  Rob is working harder to be a contender, not a pretender.  He has to do a rumba and Cheryl wants him to take the lead.  Rob did well, he continues to improve each week.  Rob played the leading man very well.  He gets a 25.

Chaz and Lacey are again looking to improve.  He's been getting a lot of fan votes, but he wants to prove his worth on the dance floor.  Lacey even brought her dad out this week to help Chaz.  It's the best I've seen Chaz move.  Len liked the effort, even thought the technique was a bit lacking.  Chaz gets a 21.

David Arquette and Kym are on next.  They get to do a tango to "Tainted Love."  A good tango with lots of moves and a good level of difficulty.  It did have a good 80's feel.  The judges liked it and David gets a 25 for his highest score.

Ricki and Derek will be last to go tonight.  Ricki earned some 10's last week, can she duplicate that this week?  Ricki knows the 80's and wants to turn it up a notch.  Another nice effort from Ricki and Derek.  it earns them a 24.

Results show tomorrow with Kelly Clarkson and The Band Perry.  Tune in!

Dancing With the Stars Results: Chynna Can't "Hold On"

A big night in the ballroom as some great guests from music and dance make appearances.  On a sad note, one more contestant will be leaving this week.

Last night was all about movies and I think they all did a pretty good job.  Chynna Phillips was perhaps the most disappointing of the evening since she had been so good the first three weeks.  Carson and Rob Kardashian again showed improvement and Hope Solo rebounded with a great routine.

The first routine of the night was the song "Soul Man".  Some good music and dancing.

Next we get Susan Boyle singing a nice movie theme and we get some dancing by by Peta and Val.

Now, on to the results.  J.R, Rob, and Ricki are called to the stage.  I'm sure Ricki is safe, but not sure about the other two.  Ricki is safe and so is J.R.  Rob and Cheryl are put in jeopardy.

Next we get to see Julianne House return to the balloom and dance with her Footloose co-star Kenny Wormald.  Also, Blake Shelton singing the new Footloose theme song.  It hits theaters this Friday.

More couples up for elimination.  Carson, Chynna and Chaz are called up to the stage.  This is going to be a tough decision and a tough result.  The next contestant who is safe is Chaz.  Joining them as safe is Carson.  Chynna and Tony are going into jeopardy.

They are really putting Julianne to work tonight.  She now gets to dance with Derek.  More high energy dancing from the Hough's.

Three more couples to find out their destiny.  Nancy, David and Hope.  This will be another tough decision.  Returning next will be Hope and David.  Nancy Grace goes into jeopardy.

The three couples in jeopardy do not look happy.  Brought to safety is Nancy and Tristan.  Rob and Cheryl and Chynna and Tony remain in jeopardy.

Chynna is eliminated and Rob comes back for one more week.

Next week, we go back to the 80's.

Dancing With the Stars: "Movie Theme Week" Hits the Ballroom

This promises to be a great week on Dancing With the Stars.  We are at the point in the competition where the contenders usually start separating themselves from the pack.

The couples will be dancing to movie themes this week, so there are a lot of songs to choose from and song selection is very important.  But ultimately it's about the dancing, so we'll see who keeps improving this week.

The show started this week with a routine choreographed and performed by the troupe and pros.  After a medley of songs, we get the competition rolling.

First up are Chynna and Tony.  They dance to the theme from Mission Impossible.  It's a tango and Tony entered from the ceiling.  A little different and an ok effort.  A few missteps and problems during the routine.  Chynna gets a 21, and might be in jeopardy tomorrow.

On to David Arquette and Kym Johnson.  David showed improvement last week and he hope it carries over to this week.  They get a paso doble to the theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark.  David tried hard to hold his nerves in place to finish the dance.  He did and turned in a good performance.  Len was a bit rough on David, but the other judges defended him.  David gets a 23.

Moving along to the always unpredictable duo of Carson and Anna.  They dance to a "Pirates" song.  A nice waltz complete with props and sword fighting.  I don't know if this routine was really good, or really bad.  Bruno said it's an idea for Pirates V: Revenge of the Gay Blade.   They get a 20, and the hook from Len.

Nancy Grace up next dancing to a song from Flash Gordon.  Tristan wants Nancy to work even harder and harder this week.  Nancy feels aggression will help her in the paso.  Lots of pyro and flash to this dance, but the technique and expression were lacking.  Nancy gets a 21.

Hope and Maks up next.  They dance to a song from Toy Story.  Max is a tough teacher and he was rough on Hope this week, will it pay off?  A nice, cute dance.  Jessie and Woody back together again.  The judges all have high expectations for Hope.  She gets a 24.  Top score of the night so far.

Rob Kardashian and Cheryl up next with a Superman themed dance.  He's been working harder and Cheryl says it is paying off.  A good paso, and good comments from the judges.  Rob gets a 24.

A tango is up next with Ricki Lake and Derek Hough.  They are going psycho, as in the theme to Psycho.  This was a tough dance for Ricki and Derek.  Lots of moves and tough music to dance to.  They went all out and told the story of the dance and the crowd loved it.  The judges loved it as well and Ricki vaults to the top of the leaderboard with a 29.

Here we go again with Chaz and Lacey.  They will dance to Rocky.  Chaz keeps advancing even though his body is giving out.  It was a little strange, but i guess it had to be.  Cher loved it, the judges had some good things to say, and they got a 21.

J.R. Martinez and Karina finish off the night.  He gives performances that are emotional and passionate.  They dance to the theme to The Pink Panther.  They worked hard again this week in seach of dancing perfection.  Carrie Ann thought it was ok, Len liked it, and Bruno liked the humor in the dance. They get a 26.

Tomorrow night, Susan Boyle, Julianne Hough and Footloose.
