While most people think of Instagram as an iPhone app, I use it on the iPad. Even though the iPad doesn't have a camera you can import your favorite images into your iPad and have at it.
I've heard Instagram called a Twitter for photos, but this app is more than that.
The team behind it is Burbn, a location-based service that works with HTML5-compatible web browsers. Halloween weekend was the biggest weekend yet for Instagram. They attribute it to "1) We got featured by Apple 2) Halloween is a great time to take and shar pictures, and 3) There’s just the natural growth of this thing that doesn’t seem to be slowing." Pretty impressive for an app that’s only four weeks old.
You can't go wrong with Instagram, give it a try and there is a good chance you will start using it regularly.
You can now follow your friends’ photo updates as they move through the world. "World" is the key word here as there are tons of members from Asia and Europe. Select from photo filters that transform regular ol’ photos into works of art you’ll want to keep around forever. Instagram has been growing at 100k users a week since it launched, and that pace is even faster post Halloween. That number could hit a half-million soon.
Features include:
- Apply over a dozen fun & beautiful filters to your photos
- Post as many photos as you want, for free
- Find and follow friends who are using the app
- Attach (optional) location information to any of your posts
- Share your posts to Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, & Facebook
- Check in to Foursquare when you post a photo with a location
- Let your friends know what you think by liking & commenting on their photos
- View the most popular photos around the world from Instagram users
The ability to do anything over the web right now is limited to changing your password and managing your account. That I'm sure will change soon.
Check out Instagram, even on the iPad.
