120 Mile Long Traffic Jam in Russia

Doesn't make sitting for 15 minutes in rush hour traffic so bad.

A massive queue of traffic north of Moscow has left some drivers stranded for up to three days in sub-zero temperatures.

Tens of thousands of vehicles have been stuck - some for three days - in a huge traffic jam on a motorway northwest of Moscow.

The length of the queue on the M-10 highway was put at up to 120 miles.

The cause of the jam is said to be heavy snow.

Winter Storm Hits Dakotas and Minnesota

It's October, so that means the northern states are fair game for some snow.

Inches and inches of snow hit the Dakotas and Minnesota yesterday.

I say it's too early.

Winter Storm Heads East

A powerful winter storm left Colorado with up to 6 feet of snow in the Rocky Mountain foothills and forced the cancellation of more than 600 flights in Denver before heading east toward the central plains.
Blizzard conditions that hit the eastern Colorado plains, including 5-foot drifts in parts of Elbert County, began easing with forecasters advising of blowing snow early Saturday.

Light snow was falling intermittently in the Denver area early Saturday, but was expected to taper off by midday as the bulk of the storm moves out of the state, forecasters said

The winter storm warnings have expired in Colorado, but the several counties in the state's eastern plains remain under a blowing snow advisory.

However, a winter storm warning was issued for parts of western Nebraska and northeastern Kansas and into southeastern Iowa. A blizzard warning remained on Friday for four counties in western Nebraska.

A band of heavy snow stalled over Nebraska, dumping nearly 13 inches in some spots.

Near-zero visibility forced officials to close all 160 miles of westbound Interstate 70 between the Kansas state line and metro Denver. A 70-mile stretch of eastbound I-70 from metro Denver to the plains town of Limon.

The snow was a welcome boost to several ski resorts that have suffered below-average snowfall this season. But while Echo Mountain and other resorts close to Denver celebrated up to 14 inches of new snow, the storm only dusted larger resorts, such as Vail, with a few inches in the central Colorado mountains.

Seattle: Snow then Ice then Rain

An ice storm closed runways at Seattle's main airport on Thursday and cut power to more than 180,000 people across the Puget Sound region.

Alaska Air Group Inc., the largest carrier at Seattle- Tacoma International Airport, planned to cancel as much as 70 percent of their schedule, President Brad Tilden said in a television interview.

Freezing rain on top of near-record snowfall yes led to ice accumulations that made travel dangerous.
Things are somewhat back to normal in Seattle today.  It's raining.

Winter Weather Coming to Southern California?

A cold Pacific storm system is heading into Southern California and is expected to bring rain today to the Inland Empire with possible heavy snowfall in the local mountains.
The slow-moving storm is expected to arrive Monday and "bring the return of wintry weather to Southern California," according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and possible thunderstorms are expected to make Inland Empire freeways soggy for commuters making their return trips home.

A winter storm warning will be in effect for the mountains as moderate snow, to heavy at times, is anticipated today through Tuesday. Snow levels are expected to drop to between 4,000 and 4,500 feet today.  Snow amounts may range from 12-20 inches.

Mountain travelers are warned that visibility could be reduced later today to a quarter-mile or less in heavy snow and fog. Beware of possible road closures, and chains may be required in heavy snowfalls.

The greatest snowfall amounts will be across the eastern San Bernardino mountains and southward across Mount San Jacinto, in Riverside County.
