Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on ALT 105.7 - Winter Olympics Tech

The Olympic Games every 2 years are breeding ground for new technology, that will soon find the way into our lives.

What's hot when it comes to technology in Pyeonchang?
Rick and Sully discuss...

1.  Streaming the Games

It's now easier than ever to stream the Games

- YouTube TV (Free Trial): YouTube TV includes NBC, so you’ll be able to enjoy the Olympics - Sign up for ExpressVPN, connect to a U.S. server and go to https://tv.youtube.com/.
- BBC without Cable or Satellite (Free Registration): The BBC is an official UK broadcaster of the games - Using a VPN, connect to a UK server and visit the BBC Olympics web site.
- NBC Online (cable subscription needed): In the U.S., NBC is the official broadcaster for the 2018 games. Using a VPN, connect to a U.S. server and visit http://www.nbcolympics.com/.

2. 5G Wireless Speeds

The games will be broadcast on the world's first fifth-generation (5G) network, whose transmission speeds are expected to be 1,000 times faster than existing long-term evolution (LTE) networks.
"The 5G network is expected to revolutionize the broadcasting industry as it is capable of delivering massive data needed for VR or hologram services," local Korean website Yonhap News wrote in January.

3. TheraBand CLX Consecutive Loops

www.therabandclx.com

$24.99
- Used by Lindsay Vonn in her training

With the help of her trusty TheraBand CLX Consecutive Loops, Vonn has not only strengthened and toned her full body, but also recovered from serious injuries such as a broken arm and two knee ligament tears.
“I felt like that’s one thing that I’ve made my mission in my career is working absolutely as hard as possible so that there’s never a question in my mind whether I could have worked harder,” say Vonn, who uses the CLX Bands heavily during training and rehab.

All-in-One product does the work of bands, loops, tubing with handles, and door anchors. Available in 5 ft. pre-cut lengths and 25 yd. Bulk Rolls.

4.  How NASA Tech Helps Predict Snowfall for the 2018 Winter Olympics

To provide the gold-medal hopefuls with forecasts every 6 hours and improve snow-prediction models for mountainous terrains, NASA has partnered with 20 agencies from about a dozen countries to collect weather data during the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, according to a recent statement from the space agency.
The World Wildlife Fund estimates that one out of every eight people lives in the world's mountains, and according to NASA, one in six relies on the water released by seasonal snowfall collecting in the mountains. Winter wonderlands are vital, but for many people during these next few weeks, fresh powder will feel even more important. Most nations have their eyes on the dramatic snow-capped mountains around Pyeongchang to watch their most-talented skiers and snowboarders go for gold.

5. The Robot Ski Challenge

The Olympians weren't the only ones sking down the slopes in Pyeonchang.

For everyone worried now that robots have learned how to open doors and perform somersaults, take heart: if you’re good at skiing, they probably won’t catch you on mountain slopes.

Just a short drive away from PyeongChang, the site for the 2018 Winter Olympics, the Welli Hilli ski resort held the Edge of Robot: Ski Robot Challenge, where Korean students and tech organizations competed for a $10,000 prize to see whose robot could navigate a simple alpine skiing challenge the fastest.

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on Radio 105.7 and iHeartRadio - Thanksgiving Tech

It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without new technology and Rick and Sully are talking "Turkey Day Tech" this week.
Technology Can Make Thanksgiving Better. It's that time of year again: turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, the presence of friends and family, and a reason to give thanks for all of our good fortune in the last year. And thanks for technology for Thanksgiving.

Have a listen:

1.  Thanksgiving with "Martha Stewart" - order your Thanksgiving meal online
www.marleyspoon.com

If you'd like some help this Thanksgiving from Martha Stewart – the queen of all things entertaining – she'll have all the ingredients and directions for your Thanksgiving meal delivered to your door in time for the big feast.

The Martha & Marley Spoon Thanksgiving meal kit includes all the fresh, quality ingredients you'll need to make a whole turkey with gravy, four sides and an easy dessert. Don't worry. The uncomplicated dishes can be cooked on Thanksgiving Day both by novice or experienced cooks.

The box includes step-by-step recipe cards – with photography for those visual learners – along with a helpful hourly preparation timeline, including which recipes can be prepped the day before.

So, what's in the box? The Thanksgiving Complete Feast box, which will feed 8-10 people, includes brown sugar glazed turkey and gravy, Big Martha's Mashed Potatoes, classic herbed stuffing with dried cherries, green beans with shallots and lemon. roasted root vegetables with brown butter, sage and almonds and a spiced apple oat crisp.

The Thanksgiving Complete Feast Box is $159.99. Or customers can choose Just The Sides for $99.99.

2.  The Ultimate Turkey Rack
$35
www.ultimateturkeyrack.com

The Ultimate Turkey Rack got its start when the inventor wanted to cook his bird upside down so that all the juices would baste into the breast of the turkey. But sitting upside down in a cooking pan would have the breast soak in the drippings and get soggy, and typical roasting racks would leave marks on the breast.
He wanted to be able to suspend the turkey while having an easy time to flip for that golden look, and so the Ultimate Turkey Rack was made. As I say, the design is extremely simple. You slide the skewer through the middle of the turkey, tie the legs on its rods with cooking twine, sit the contraption in a cooking pan and pop it in the oven. At about three quarters of the cooking time done, pull out of the oven and flip the turkey right side-up, then return into the oven to finish cooking.

The Ultimate Turkey Rack has been featured on the Rachael Ray Show, Cook's Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen.

3. Dry Top
www.drytopproducts.com

Store all those Thanksgiving leftovers with Dry Top.
Re-usable capsules that go in your food storage containers and make your perishable items last longer.

4. Traceable Turkeys
www.honeysucklewhite.com

Find out where the Honeysuckle White turkey you put into your shopping cart was raised.
Turkey buyers in select Texas markets will be able to either text or enter on the Honeysuckle White website the code found on the tag on the packaged bird to find out where it was raised and get information about the farm's location, view farm photos and read the farmer's message.

5. Thanksgiving Meal Planning Apps

Sure, Grandma put out a delicious spread for 15 people without relying on so much as a recipe. But in this digital day and age, doesn’t it make more sense to utilize technology when you’re prepping and cooking for three days straight? From shopping and planning list apps like Clear+ to recipe clearinghouses like Butterball Cookbook Plus to menu assistants like Snapguide to project management sorters like KitchenPad Timer to interactive scales and high-tech thermometers, the app store can be your best (and cheapest) friend as you prepare for Thursday’s feast.

6. Sound Oasis Stereo Bluetooth Sleep Sound Therapy System

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on Radio 105.7 and iHeartRadio - Hurricanes and High Tech Food

How healthy do you eat?

Rick steps up to the plate this week, with some healthy food and some app tips for following and preparing for the hurricane season...

Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma.  It looks like a busy hurricane season

Rick has two apps here to make sure you are ready.... have a listen:

1. Hurricane by American Red Cross

This award-winning, free iOS and Android app not only tracks and forecasts the hurricanes, it also explains how to make and execute an emergency plan and how to use social media, text, or email to tell others you’re safe during and after a storm.

2. NOAA SuperRes Radar US by Shuksan Software

This iOS app is aimed at weather enthusiasts and boasts high resolution graphics four times more detailed than other apps as well as full text warnings from the National Weather Service.
Multiple map styles and different view options make this app a good one for serious trackers.
This third-party app is not an official platform of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or the National Weather Service.
As with any app that relies on mapping software, these hurricane trackers should be used sparingly as maps can drain battery power quickly, which could be catastrophic in an emergency situation. Turn off when not in use.
In addition to SuperRes Level 2 radar, NOAA RadarUS+ offers access to 3 km hourly forecast radar and the following features:
- 3 and 6 day precipitation and pressure forecasts from NOAA weather models
- Temperature overlay
- Snow/mixed precipitation display (only on 1km base reflectivity radar layer)
- 7 day forecasts and current conditions -- just press and hold for a second on the radar map.
- Severe weather (flash flood, tornado, and severe thunderstorm) warnings. Tap on a warning box to display the full warning message from the National Weather Service. Note: these are *not* push alerts. The app must be open to view the warnings.
- Cloud cover and satellite imagery for the continental United States
- Advanced radar layers (echo tops, composite reflectivity, and storm total precipitation).
- Play, pause, and step animations
- Fast zoom in and zoom out
- Choice of radar palettes

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on Radio 105.7 and iHeartRadio - New Bicycling Tech

Atlanta and cycling.

Although Atlanta has historically been a city defined by the automobile, its increasingly compact urban form and mild climate are encouraging residents to cycle to work, shopping, and recreational destination.

Stats:

Miles of bike lanes in the city of Atlanta: 45.2
Miles of bike lanes proposed under the city's official transportation plan: 226

In 2013, Mayor Kasim Reed announced plans for Atlanta to become a top-10 cycling city—a goal that seemed a tad ambitious when he gave it a timeline of three years. But now that the 2016 deadline is here, the wheels are finally in motion: The Atlanta Regional Commission has approved a $1 billion plan to make the area safer for cyclists and pedestrians.

This will be the first time the city has developed a comprehensive trail plan that seeks to connect communities and the big multi-use paths—like the Silver Comet trail to Alabama, and the 22-mile Beltline around the city's core.

- Have a listen to Rick and Sully

1. City Bikes are back like... the Linus Pronto

Linus Pronto

The brand is already well-known for its collection of classy, vintage-inspired town bikes.  The Pronto is a range-expander bike—it’s meant as a graduation from occasional rides into more frequent, longer trips. The frame is aluminum, and the entire bike is eight pounds lighter than the brand’s Roadster. Positioning is a little more aggressive for nimble handling than the other models in the brand, and the 1x8 drivetrain provides range for climbing. The bike retails for $669; fenders come stock.

2. Lightweight disc brakes come to Bikes

Are disc breaks going from our cars to our bikes?

Disc brakes are becoming more and more popular. Bike companies are even beginning to release wholly re-designed bikes, purposely built to accommodate the additional braking power.

Now, with the recent proclamation by the UCI that they’ll give the brakes a second go in the WorldTour we reckon we’re about to see plenty of race bikes released with some lightweight stoppers.

3. Wind Blox

www.wind-blox.com

Improves safety for cyclists
#1 Most Effective Wind Noise Blocker: Stops up to 80% of Wind Noise
Made of Technical Materials Cyclists Require

4. Pedego Electric Bikes

www.pedegoelectricbikes.com

Pedego Electric Bikes make riding more fun. An electric bike is just like a regular bicycle - only better. You can pedal normally (or not), and get power when you want it. You have the freedom to go farther and faster, without getting too sweaty. You're empowered to conquer hills and headwinds with ease. There are plenty of reasons to ride an electric bike, and the best reason is simple - it's fun. And who doesn't like to have fun?
Pedego is the market leader. Prices start around $2,000

5. Linka Smartlock

-No ordinary bike lock
This is no run of the mill chain - it’s essentially a SWAT team for your bike. It’ll send you push notifications if it senses someone attempting to hack it off, deafening them with a 100 dB alarm. In the case of a thief succeeding in cycling off, the lock has a geolocator to help you catch up with them

Have a great 4th of July weekend!
