Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on Radio 105.7 and iHeartRadio - Go Big with Monitors and TVs

The bigger the display, the better.

When it comes to computer monitors, TVs etc..

Rick and Sully discuss. What to look for in your next monitor or TV purchase.

1.  Go big or go home

Like TVs, display screens have seen a growth spurt. Just a few years ago, the 19-inch display was the benchmark. Many flat-panel displays are now 22-inches or larger, while curved displays increase your field of vision and make the most of all available screen space. These larger displays allow you to view multiple windows and documents at once, replacing the need for multiple monitors at one desk. That way, you get more screen real estate and more desk space to boot.

2.  Higher Resolution

The increased pixel density in 4k and 5k resolution displays allow us to work with more detail (good for coders), sharper image quality (good for photo editors), and high-definition video (good for streamers), while also reducing eye strain (good for all of us).

3.  Wider Aspect Ratio

Displays can be measured several ways, one of which is aspect ratio. The aspect ratio of an image is the ratio of the width of the image to its height. The square 4:3 aspect ratio used to be the desktop display standard; and while the widescreen 16:9 has been the norm for several years, curved 21:9 formats are now on the market. Benefits of wider aspect ratio include a high degree of image detail for graphics editing, and a unique immersive gaming experience, to name two.

4. More Versatile

And Improved collaboration: We share with local and global colleagues more than ever before, so staying connected requires evolving how we collaborate. Whether you're conferencing at your desk or in a huddle room, displays like the Skype for Business-certified HP EliteDisplay E240c and HP EliteDisplay S340c Curved Monitor make meetings more manageable and productive.

5. Easier on your body

If your head and neck aren't comfortable while working in front of a PC, chances are you're not doing your best work. New displays are designed with your well-being in mind. Pivot rotation allows you to configure multiple displays to best fit the shape of your workstation. Pro tip: For eye comfort, position your display 18"–28" away, adjust it to the right height, and take visual breaks.

6. Our new montors and TVs today have more options...

Today's displays include a diverse assortment of ports—VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C. These added connectors help us do more, from supporting our video and audio needs to fast power delivery over USB connections.

Have a great Easter!

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on Radio 105.7 and iHeartRadio - Orlando and St. Augustine

Rick has been on the road all week in Florida- Orlando and St. Augustine.

It's been "travel and tech" all week for Rick.

What did he see? Have a listen:

1. SeaWorld Orlando will introduce Kraken Virtual Reality Roller Coaster this summer

Central Florida's first virtual-reality roller coaster next summer, retrofitting Kraken with headsets to give riders the sensation of traveling through the sea amid mythical and prehistoric creatures.

Riders on Kraken will have the option to don virtual-reality headsets attached to the roller coaster, covering their eyes and ears. They will hear music composed for the ride as they embark on a deep-sea mission alongside the fictional Kraken and other animals. SeaWorld won’t say yet whether the images will be 3-D.

2. Universal Studios and their new Volcano Bay water park

Supposed to open May 25

Water is Life. Life is Joy. That's the philosophy celebrated at Universal's Volcano Bay™ water theme park. It's the carefree attitude the fabled Waturi islanders have embraced on their Pacific isle for centuries. Now you can live the Waturi way at this all-new park where thrills and relaxation flow in perfect harmony.

With the power of the TapuTapu™ wearable, there’s no standing in long lines, carrying rafts around the park, nothing between you and a full day of fun. It’s an all-new kind of paradise, just steps away from everything Universal Orlando Resort™ has to offer.

With 18 incredible attractions, you'll be able to experience daring water adventures and moments of peaceful relaxation—all without having to worry about waiting in line or carrying around rafts. You'll be granted the powers of the TapuTapu™ wearable. With just a wave of your wrist you can hold your place in the ride lines and reveal wondrous surprises throughout the park. Which means more time to careen down slides, brave whitewater torrents, drift down a winding river or relax in your own waterside cabana.

3. Orlando Eye

Similar to Atlanta's Eye, but bigger.
⦁    The Coca-Cola Orlando Eye is the tallest observational wheel on the United States East Coast
⦁    The Coca-Cola Orlando Eye weighs approximately three million pounds, that is 1,500 tons or equivalent to 300 school buses
⦁    All 30 passenger capsules feature Bose audio systems for music/narration, air-conditioning and interactive tablets to provide information on the Eye’s 360-degree views
⦁    Four of the capsules offer an added VIP experience with red and white décor, a bottle cap seat, a featured music playlist, selfie sticks to capture great memories and refreshments inside Coca-Cola coolers
⦁    Each of the 30 capsules weigh 6,600 pounds, or the average weight of an Indian elephant
⦁    At more than 80,000 pounds, the wheel hub weighs more than a Boeing 737

4. Florida's Everglades - Rick and his wife took an airboat ride to the Everglades

www.wildfloridaairboats.com

- Florida facts  1.5 million alligators
- The Everglades are actually shrinking. They used to cover an area twice as big as they do today.
A driving damaging factor has been the rising levels of phosphorus in the water. Cattail is a wetland native but under higher levels it overtakes other plants, degrading the Everglades habitat. Lou Toth, an ecologist working with South Florida’s Water Management District (SFWMD) to tackle the problem, explains: “We’re treating the water primarily with submerged aquatic vegetation cells to bring the phosphorous levels down to approximately 13 parts per billion before they’re discharged into the Glades,” said Toth. “That’s the level that is needed to restore the Everglades.”

5. For a more relaxing side of Florida, Rick also hit St. Augustine.

St. Augustine lays claim to being the oldest city in the U.S., and is known for its Spanish colonial architecture as well as Atlantic Ocean beaches like sandy St. Augustine Beach and tranquil Crescent Beach. Anastasia State Park is a protected wildlife sanctuary. The Castillo de San Marcos is a 17th-century Spanish stone fortress with views of the St. Augustine Inlet.

- "Wrecked" exhibit at St. Augustine Maritime Museum.  Discover St. Augustine's ties to the American Revolutionary War in this new, interactive exhibition! See artifacts from a 1782 British loyalist shipwreck found right here in St. Augustine and learn how underwater archaeologists locate historic shipwrecks on the ocean floor.

This is a brand new exhibition at the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum. Come by and dive into this unknown part of American history on your next visit. All of the artifacts inside really show you what life was like for people in 1782. Plus, it also shows you how cool technology is used to find shipwrecks.  http://www.staugustinelighthouse.org/Exhibits/wrecked

- Lightner Museum in St. Augustine displays a collection of 36 authentic Victorian-era costumes and accessories from the acclaimed PBS drama Downton Abbey from Oct. 4, 2017 to Jan. 7, 2018

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on Radio 105.7 - Rick Tours SunTrust Park

Rick had the chance this week to tour the new home of the Atlanta Braves, SunTrust Park.

While the Braves have been in the news this week for making a decision not to allow outside food into the ballpark, and then reversing that decision, various media had the chance to get a behind the scenes look at SunTrust Park this week.

What did Rick see? Sully and Rick discuss on iHeartRadio:

1. Baseball has gone high end and high tech in Atlanta

While we used to just have the 755 Club. Now there are multiple high end lounges and areas for special pass holders, the Delta Sky 360 Club, the SunTrust Club, Infiniti Club. All are very calming to the eye, comfortable and will serve all the food and drink one can handle.

2. Plentiful Wi-Fi

With more than 1100 Wi-Fi access points (Routers) fans at SunTrust Park and the surrounding The Battery will have use of the fastest Wi-Fi in the Metro Atlanta area.

Fans will be able to check emails, share pictures and videos, etc.

3. Zip Line

Everyone has a zip line now, including SunTrust Park.  Actually it's part of the midway area of Suntrust in The Sand Lot part of The Battery. The Zip Line will take reservations ahead of time to cut down on waits. I hear the view is spectacular.

4. The Chop House is Back!

Everyone has a story to tell about an experience they had at the Chop House. Well, the Chop House is back. It's now the Coors Light Chop House. Comfortable seating, nice views and great ambiance Hope the food is good!

5. Xfinity Roof Top

Area where any one can go with a ticket. You are high up, but the view is great. There are concessions and a Waffle House up here.

This is an indoor/outdoor area.

6. Braves Clubhouse, Under the stadium batting cages and nice-sized granite tables between the seats on field level.

Limpert Tech "SullyCast" on Radio 105.7 and iHeartRadio - Adobe Summit 2017

Rick is just back from the 2017 Adobe Summit in Las Vegas and there was a lot going on.

Adobe is not only known for it's online readers, apps and products like Photoshop.
They help power most of the top websites in the world and provide customer service and "customer experience" for all of us that use websites.

Have a listen:

1. Appearances at Adobe Summit by Penn & Teller, Peyton Manning, Ryan Gosling and SNL's Kate McKinnon

- All talking "Experience" as that was the prevailing theme this year.
Peyton Manning even explained the use of the word "Omaha" in is play calling.

2.  Adobe and Microsoft Partnership

At Adobe Summit, and building on their partnership announcement from last September, Adobe (Nasdaq:ADBE) and Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT) will announce availability of their first set of joint solutions designed to help enterprises transform their customer experiences [watch the keynote live stream ]. Available today, these solutions will transform cross-channel experiences and campaign orchestration using Adobe Experience Cloud and Microsoft Azure, Dynamics 365 and Power BI. In addition, the companies will announce they are collaborating on an industry standard to define and unify the language for marketing, sales and services data needed to deliver digital experiences consistently at scale.

“Today’s customers have high standards when it comes to brand interactions. Enterprise companies must deliver exceptional experiences at scale or risk losing customers to competitors,” said Abhay Parasnis, executive vice president and CTO, Adobe. “Bringing together Adobe’s and Microsoft’s sales, marketing and customer intelligence solutions enables brands to better understand and engage with their customers across all touch points.”

3.  Pam El, CMO of NBA

Pam El, CMO of the NBA gave one of the keynotes at the Summit, looking at the emotion, excitement and sheer drama the NBA has to offer. Something that stood out to me was how out of its 1 billion fans worldwide, less than 1 percent will experience a NBA game in an arena. As a result, technology has played an immense role in allowing their fans to be engaged with the game and their players such as through the NBA app.
Therefore, it’s no surprise that it is the most followed league on social media, and that their core fans consume content on 3 or more different platforms. This means that for the NBA, it is all about data-driven marketing. Essentially, delivering the right message, to the right person at the right time on the right channel.

4. There is still a focus on email

Each email you receive could be part of the "customer experience."
Emails are being personalized for reciprients. Think of the possibilities here.
"Email is not dead"

5.  Mobile

“Mobile is the next big thing. It is the main thing.”

The mobile transformation is not done yet, and that mobile is now the main screen and can’t be an afterthought for marketers. I tend to agree. I think that marketers need to create end-to-end mobile experiences that delight consumers, leveraging the distinct capabilities of mobile to go beyond just being an optimized carbon copy of the desktop experience.

But the key to stand out from the crowd is to provide mobile experiences your users need and expect. This starts with getting feedback from your mobile visitors to understand their needs, expectations and experiences.

A great week at Adobe Summit and I recommend it for anyone using Adobe products.
