College Volleyball Player Busted in Prostitution Ring

A prostitution raid on an Indiana ‘spa’ led to the arrest of a college volleyball player at Lindsey Wilson College. Marisa Ruckel was on the arrest list, and she is playing, or played college volleyball at the small college.

According to the Jeffersonville, IN local newspaper...

Jeffersonville Police Department Detective Todd Hollis said police started receiving multiple citizen complaints several months ago about prostitution at a business on North Shore Drive near the Ohio River. The business was advertised as a “light-touch massage parlor.”

The Jeffersonville Police Department set up surveillance outside the massage parlor and began looking at several online websites where My Studio 1501 is advertised. "They promoted themselves as a legitimate business," Hollis said.

Several Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers set up an appointment and went undercover into the establishment on Wednesday. Some of the women allegedly offered to have sex with them or perform sexual acts for money.

Her Facebook page is gone and her name appears to be in the process of being taken down from the athletic site.

Amazon to grow textbook rental business

It's back-to-school season, and Amazon.com is offering a service sure to help students’ wallets with e-textbooks.

On Monday, Amazon said that it will begin renting digital textbooks viaKindle Textbook Rentals

The e-textbooks should go a long way toward reducing students’ monstrous textbook bills each semester. Renting a digital text can save as much as 80 percent over the price of buying a dead-tree book, according to Amazon Kindle vice president Dave Limp.

Kindle Textbook Rentals allows students to pay based on how long they want to use textbooks, with periods ranging from 30 to 360 days.

And you don’t have to own a Kindle to use the service. Rented Kindle Textbooks can be read on many devices, including all of the iPads, smartphones, PCs or Macs, iPod Touch devices, and Blackberry, Windows Phone, and Android-based devices.

Former Georgia AD, Evans Surfaces at Savannah St.

Damon Evans has been hired as a consultant for the Savannah State athletic department, according to a report in the Savannah Morning News. Evans, a former Georgia athletic director, will assess the department following the firing of Marilynn Suggs on Wednesday.  This means Evans has to be thought of as the leading candidate to replace Suggs at the struggling D-1 school.

Evans resigned from his UGA position amid scandal last July, days after he was arrested for driving under the influence. Evans pleaded guilty to the DUI charge, was fined $750 and served a one-year probation.  At one time, Evans was regarded as one of the best young AD's in the country.

Evans and his family moved to Boston after he left Georgia.

Savannah State men’s basketball coach Horace Broadnax was named interim athletic director this week following the firing of Suggs.

Officials said there is no timetable for hiring a new AD.
