Three Feared Dead in Yosemite Waterfall Accident

Three people who had been playing at the top of a 317-foot Yosemite National Park waterfall were presumed dead after plunging over the edge, a park spokesman said on Wednesday.

Ninos Yacoub, 27, Hormiz David, 22, and Ramina Badal, 21, were seen slipping over Vernal Falls on Tuesday afternoon by hikers who had warned them to stay out of the river above the precipice, park ranger Scott Gediman said.

"Basically one person lost his footing and he started to slide down, and the second person tried to rescue him and then the third," he said.

Search and rescue teams had not any bodies as of Wednesday morning, Gediman said, but did not believe that Yacoub, David or Badal could have lived through the ordeal.

"It's a 317-foot vertical drop over rushing water. It's not something that somebody can survive, unfortunately, Gediman said. "It's a tragic situation."

One or more of the bodies could have become wedged in rocks or carried downstream.  They are checking out all possibilities.

Modern Family up for 17 Emmys

ABC's "Modern Family," which was last year's top comedy series, was the most-nominated sitcom with 17 bids, while "Mildred Pierce," a melodramatic miniseries starring Kate Winslet, led all programs with 21 bids.

Other shows vying for the comedy crown, in addition to "Modern Family," are three-time winner "30 Rock," "Glee," "The Office" and "Parks & Recreation." Even though "Glee" is back in the category, the sophomore musical hit experienced a bit of a comedown, seeing its nomination total fall from last's year's 19 to 12. Among the dropouts: Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison.

Still, at least "Glee" is in the running. Several other deserving sitcoms, including "Community," "The Middle" and "Raising Hope," all missed the cut. Also overlooked was the edgy critical darling, "Louie," which did score a first-time nomination for its lead actor, Louis C.K.

Modern Family," which should be favored to repeat as best comedy, once again dominated the supporting acting categories with Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara representing the show on the women's side and Ed O'Neill, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Ty Burrell earning nominations for the men. O'Neill's nomination was particularly satisfying, since he was the only member of the show's main cast be excluded last year.

Fire Breaks Perimeter of Los Alamos Lab

Firefighters battling a wildfire near New Mexico's Los Alamos National Laboratory deliberately set part of the lab's perimeter ablaze, officials said.

Firefighters said they believe a blackened ring of burned vegetation will protect the nuclear lab and the radioactive material it houses by denying the wildfire fuel, ABC News reported Thursday.

The fire, which has burned more than 90,000 acres, prompted a mass evacuation, leaving the city of Los Alamos a virtual ghost town.

The laboratory was to remain closed at least through Friday, lab officials said.

A plane equipped with radiation monitors flew over the lab Wednesday -- a move lab authorities said was a precaution.

Meanwhile, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez examined some of the first air-quality tests from the Los Alamos area. Although the sampled indicated a lot of smoke, officials said no radiation had been released.

Modern Family Quotes of the Night from 'The One That Got Away'

It's the season finale and it's also Jay's birthday.  All he wants is some peace and quiet and to go fishing.  Gloria has other plans...

Here are the quotes.

Mitchell:  Permission to come aboard.

Jay:  They almost lost me last month with that chorizo.

Gloria:  It's a sausage, not our flag.

Manny:  I only used this once to take a torte out of the oven.

Manny:  I have a tennis racquet upstairs I only use as a bubble bath frother.

Phil:  One day I had to park an Aston Martin. I'll try not to dent that one.

Claire:  Mine's down there getting rabies on it.

Claire:  He didn't stop for the screaming sailor in a tree.

Claire:  Where did you get a sailor suit on short notice.

Cam:  It's not what you think, I'm talking to a little boy.

Jay;  How did you get kicked out of a bakery?

Cam:  She can be mean in Spanish.

Haley:  I can't talk about Grandpa dressed like this.

Luke:  Grandpa is really cool, one time he let me drink some of his beer.   Root beer.

Gloria:  It's a little see thru.

Gloria:  I think I found something that will make my husband very happy.

Phil:  Very happy Gloria!

Gloria:  Phil, I need you....

Jay:  You think that's funny, Popeye?

Mitchell:  Sorry you said wrecked 'em.

Manny:  She wants to go on a date to the batting cage.

Jay:  Sparks are up by 8, if anyone cares.

Jay:  I thought of taking up the saxophone.  Is this the sexy phone?

Haley:  Now you are dork of the night.

Dancing With the Stars: Hines Ward is MVP!

Last night was a night of impressive dances, but it's only fitting as one of these couples will win this season of Dancing With the Stars and the coveted Mirrorball Trophy.

We have three different dancers with three completely different styles.  It's hard for me to predict because we don't know how the fan voting is going.  Kirstie is trailing a little after the performance, but she racks in the votes.  Hines was so good las night and football players have fared well on the show in past seasons.

The finalists will actually have one more round of dancing before the results will be read.

Some big musical acts tonight, and leading off is the Black Eyed Peas and one of their new songs.  Next was a feature on the judges and their opinions on the three finalists.

The next segment highlighted some of the contestants that were eliminated earlier in the season.  From Mike Catherwood dancing with the troupe to Sugar Ray Leonard and Kendra, they were all back tonight.

Petra reprised her waltz from week 3, and it was sung by Josh Grobin.  Kendra and Louis hit the floor next dancing to a Ricky Martin song.  She ended her routine by dancing on the judge's table before almost falling off it.

Sugar Ray Leonard was one of my favorite contestants this season.  He was introduced tonight by ring announcer Michael Buffer.  Chris Jericho also was brought out on to the dance floor.  Both took the show very seriously and if not for one bad dance they might've advanced further than they did.

Next was Wendy Williams.  They did a skit where she interviewed herself.  That skit was about as good as her dancing.

The next musical guest is the Go-Go's.  Haven't seen them in a while.  They sang 'We've Got the Beat' and Chelsie Hightower, Cheryl and Lacey were joined for this routine with Maks in a policeman uniform.

Romeo and Chelsie Hightower did their final dance.  They try to find an angle for each dancer as the season progresses, and Romeo's angle was doing it for the kids.  They had a kid's chorus singing while they danced.

Ralph Macchio will be the final dancer brought back for one final dance.  He was classy and popular with the fans as he reached the semi-finals.

Finally, the three finalists will dance their final dances.

First up is Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas.  They will redo their Viennese Waltz.  They showed clips from their last rehearsal last night and how emotional it was for them.  To me, it looked about the same as they last time they did it.  No surprise, the judges all liked it and complemented them.  They get a 30 for their final dance.

Kirstie and Maks are next.  No dancer has made more strides than Kirstie Alley.  They dance a cha cha cha.  A lot of improvement for Kirstie and Maks deserves a lot of credit.  Kirstie gets a 30 out of 30.

The honor of the final dance of season 12 belongs to Hines Ward and Kym Johnson.  They are looking to do a perfect Samba.  Another good dance.  No surprise here, they also get a 30.

Sara Evans sang a final song while highlights ofthe season played in the background.

One couple is about to be eliminated.  The third place contestant is Chelsea Kane.

The lights are dimmed and a champion is about to be named.

The winner is... Hines Ward and Kym Johnson!
